East Wake football coach steps down after one season

— East Wake High School will have another new head football coach this fall.

Sean Murphy resigned from his position earlier this week after just one season, East Wake athletic director Jonathan Hasbrouck confirmed to HighSchoolOT.com on Sunday.

Murphy moved to East Wake from Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, Md., where he served as the football coach for 20 years. He was the 15th winningest active coach in Maryland with a career record of 127-84. In his time at the school, Murphy led the team to five conference championships, including an undefeated season in 2014.

This past season, East Wake’s football team posted a 3-8 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Greater Neuse River 3A Conference.

Hasbrouck said the vacant job has been posted and the school is taking applications.

Murphy took over the football position after John Poulnott stepped down following the 2016 season to spend more time with his family.
