Gurkha fights to keep sister in UK

A decorated Gurkha soldier is battling the Home Office to stop his 75-year-old sister being deported back to Nepal.

A petition to prevent the deportation of Lal Suba Gurung has so far attracted 583 signatures.

Major Udaibahadar Gurung MBE served for 31 years in the British army and retired in 2000.

His sister, Lal, a widow, is sharing his home in Colchester, Essex, as her house in Nepal was destroyed in an earthquake.

Lal’s family have tried to get the courts to allow her to remain in Britain, but the case was refused earlier this year.
