Siaosi Mariner announces transfer from Utah football – KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY — A day after learning that Utah football will be bringing back all of its offensive skills players to the 2019 season, junior wide receiver Siaosi Mariner announced his decision to transfer from the program.

Mariner, the 6-foot-2 receiver from Tustin, Texas, announced on Twitter Tuesday that “after prayer and discussion with family and friends, I have decided to transfer from the University of Utah.” He said he intends to transfer after he graduates from the university in May.

“This university has been nothing short of amazing to me the past four years and has taught me so much about myself,” he said in the tweet. “I would like to thank coach Whitt and the entire coaching staff for taking a chance on me four years ago, and giving me an opportunity to jump-start my dreams.”

Mariner had a roller coaster junior season and struggled to meet his preseason expectations. Coming into the 2018 season, Mariner was expected to be receiver No. 1, but got injured early on and spent much of the season rehabbing. Mariner, though, was a big target for quarterbacks Tyler Huntley and Jason Shelley and finished the season with 209 receiving yards and one touchdown.

He ends his career at Utah with 785 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 52 catches in three seasons. Mariner will be placing his name in the graduate transfer pool where teams will soon be able to contact him.

In Mariner’s absence, Utah has a stable of receivers to fill the void, including up-and-coming talents like Solomon Enis, Bryan Thompson and Bronson Boyd.
