In what proved to be a one-sided affair, Harsh Tyagi’s six-fer helped India clinch the Under-19 Asia Cup title, defeating Sri Lanka by 144 runs in the final at Dhaka.

Electing to bat, India posted a mammoth 304/3, with four of their top five batters posting half-centuries. Yashasvi Jaiswal was in the thick of action yet again, stroking his third fifty-plus score in four games.

The opener put on a century-stand with Anuj Rawat to set the platform for India’s innings, stroking eight boundaries and a six in his 113-ball 85. He followed it up with another half-century partnership with Devdutt Padikkal before being trapped by Kalana Perera. With both the set batsmen falling in quick succession, the innings threatened to be derailed at 192 for 3. However, Prabh Simran Singh and Ayush Badoni averted any further damage and took the team past the 300-run mark. The duo stroked quickfire fifties and stitched an unbeaten 110-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Sri Lanka began steady in the chase. But once the second wicket pair of Nishan Madushka and Pasindu Sooriyabandara was separated after their 46-run alliance, they never caught up with the chase. Tyagi, who dismissed both of them, wreaked havoc and bagged four more wickets to return figures of 6 for 38.

Navod Paranavithana’s 61-ball 48 never threatened the Indian challenge as wickets kept falling from the other end. Another slow left-armer Siddharth Desai bagged two more wickets to finish with 18 in the tournament, and bundle the opposition out for 160.

Jaiswal’s 318 runs earned him the Player of the Series award in the 2018 U19 Asia Cup.
