UK enjoys warmest day of the year so far and Saturday will be even HOTTER

BRITS have basked in sunshine and blue skies as today is chalked up as the hottest day of the year so far.

Tomorrow is set to be a touch warmer at 18C – making the country officially hotter than sunny Barcelona, which will only reach 16C.

Today saw the mercury break the previous record of 2018’s hottest day last month of 16.6C, as temperatures soared up to 17C.

A rush of warm air has swept through the country to banish the painful memories of past weeks of snow and driving rain.

Everywhere apart from the northern parts of Scotland will have seen double figures today, and this trend is set to continue tomorrow.

The balmy weather means trees will burst into a flowering frenzy, producing a surge in pollen.

Millions of hay fever sufferers could suffer streaming eyes and runny noses.

Allergy expert Max Wiseberg warned: “When the tree pollen season is delayed, more trees are likely to release their pollen at the same time, creating a time bomb waiting to explode.”

The average temperature for April in London is about 12.6C, and Brits in the capital have enjoyed a toasty but breezy day today at 17C.

And we can look forward to the possibility of an even warmer day tomorrow, despite a fair amount of rain expected.

“The rest of the UK will have a weather system that’s wriggling around north and south.

“There will be outbursts of rain across the country. It’s going to be moving north through the day.

“For the rest of Saturday parts will see some bright or sunny spells.

“If the rain breaks up then it might be a bit warmer.
